" It is March 20th and it has been an amazing week! Forest Bowen of Wood Acres has been taking care of my trees for several years and we have been agonizing about the very old black walnut tree in my garden. I live in Georgetown and every spring one or two huge trees topple down when the roots get too wet for too long. Then new neighbours moved in with two small children. Forest pruned the walnut back for a couple of years and instead of helping reduce the walnut yield, it did the opposite and I worried they would hit the children. At that point I asked my son-in-law, Jesse Fisher, if he would like to have the wood for his furniture business. (Jesse has designed and made beautiful hardwood furniture for over 20 years). He was thrilled and found a sawyer to come up from Fredericksburg, Va. Matthew and his crew of 4 came earlier this week with his portable sawmill, set it up in my garden and worked 10 hour days to saw the beautiful walnut tree into boards to Jesse's specification and it is truly gorgeous wood! Matthew will cure it and Jesse will move it to Portland, Oregon where he makes his furniture. Forest organized it all, supervised it methodically and made a documentary DVD of photos and videos. He is a real professional and I would not hesitate to recommend Forest Bowen and Wood Acres to anyone anywhere! " |

" Wood Acres is amazing. They really know about trees and it shows. We have two very large (150+ feet tall) and mature trees in our yard. They had some dead limbs in the canopy and I was worried about storms dropping them on our house. Our neighbors have cut their trees down, but I love the trees and wanted to keep them. I called a few tree services and got estimates -- the other firms just gave me estimates for trimming the trees and cutting the dead wood out of them. But then Wood Acres came over. They sent Forest (no joke! their arborist is truly named Forest--how cool is that?!). Anyway, Forest told me about the trees and explained that there was more going on with them than just the dead wood -- he pointed out that we had wood boring insects in the tree and some sort of tree blight. He said he couldn't promise that he could save them, but gave us an entire program to try to extend their life as long as possible. I appreciated his knowledge and candor. So much so, that I asked him to take on another project--to cut seven feet off the top of the row of leland cypress in our yard. He let me know when the team would show up and they were right on time. They were very professional -- all in clean, matching uniforms with big clean trucks. The team did a great job and cleaned up all the wood and leaves in the yard. When they left, you would have never known they were there. Even the neighbors commented on what a professional team they were. When I got home, it looked like they hadn't cut quite as much off the cypress trees as I wanted -- I call Forest and he called his team and they came right back out and trimmed them further. I couldn't believe how professional and easy to work with they are. I would highly recommend this firm." |
